SOUTHERN GEMS

“Al Tarì, the Goldsmith Center of Marcianise, the talents of high jewelery work, design, create. An ancient history that combines with innovation, the training of the Tarì Design School, the sustainability of the Business Academy, with exhibitions and cultural initiatives".

There is an indissoluble bond between the Tarì goldsmith center and Naples. It is the extraordinary mix of history and culture, tradition and creativity, intuition and innovation, which have distinguished since its foundation and still today characterize the reality of this revolutionary aggregation center for entrepreneurs and talents, which has brought manufacturing excellence to the world Neapolitan in jewelry.

Since 1996, the year in which its activities began, the Tarì has identified an exclusive business model. Born from the artisanal experience of Neapolitan goldsmith companies, it has transferred their identity, creativity and culture into an avant-garde production and distribution context, based on organizational criteria and entrepreneurial values that still today represent a point of reference of international importance.

During its long experience, Tarì has always promoted the corporate culture in the field of innovation, training and, today, sustainability.

Training, through the excellence of the Tarì Design School, has always been the jewel in the crown of the Goldsmith Centre. In over 30 years of activity, the School has trained and placed over 3,000 professionals into the world of work: goldsmiths, jewelers, setters and watchmakers. A new generation of goldsmith craftsmen and entrepreneurs, born no longer from the ancient experience of apprenticeship in the workshop, but from a broad and complete training project, based on the acquisition of artistic, historical, technical and, more recently, also managerial skills. Today, the educational excellence of Tarì Design School is appreciated by international clients, who for years have entrusted their educational projects to the School through the design of advanced training classes, designed on the specific production needs of the client, including Bulgari and Cartier.

But the evolutionary projection of Tarì went even further. In May 2023 the Tarì Business Academy was presented: the innovative HUB of the Tarì dedicated to innovation and opportunities for young talents.

The objective of this outpost of the skills of the future arises from the rapid evolution of the labor market, and from the growing demand for new ideas and professionalism, capable of supporting the strength of the artisan manufacturing companies, aiming in particular at those of the Tarì area, with the advent of new skills and technologies. Tarì Business Academy aims to develop and introduce new professionals in the Tarì ecosystem in the fields of organization, creativity, communication, efficiency and, last but not least, sustainability, through a 21-month program of meetings and coworking opportunities .

The Project was born in collaboration with the University of Naples Federico II, with which collaborations aimed at exchange of skills, technology transfers and sharing of projects will soon open on several fronts, with Apple Developer Academy and the Campania certified incubator New Steel.

Another culture of innovation for the Tarì's commitment in one of the most topical areas under discussion today, that of sustainability. The adoption of the principles of Sustainability in the strategic choices of the Goldsmith Center, which drew up the first sustainability report in 2021, has the objective of developing a shared culture with respect to ESG levers, in the environmental, social and economic fields, making it possible to develop and disseminate growing awareness of the issue among all stakeholders, aiming at the objective of establishing an authentic sustainable community. An ambitious and demanding project, which represents a great cultural change for the traditional business model, but which fits perfectly with the soul of Tarì, which has always been sensitive to the strategic issues of the 2030 Agenda: people and corporate culture, with the territory and of course the environment, starting with the construction, in 2010, of one of the most important photovoltaic plants in Italy, with a production of one million 1000 kwp on an area of 22,000 m2.

“The creative inspiration that characterizes the high craftsmanship of the 400 companies permanently present in the citadel of Marcianise certainly comes from the deep bond of Tarì with the history and culture of Campania. A sort of DNA seems to have been transmitted over the centuries, from generation to generation, allowing our companies, but also the smallest artisan workshops, to express today an exceptional creativity, which has its roots in antiquity, starting from the extraordinary riches that emerged from the excavations of Pompeii and Herculaneum". From this suggestive reflection of the President of the goldsmith center Vincenzo Giannotti, also heir to a dynasty of Neapolitan goldsmiths, arose a few months ago the desire to deepen the intuition through a path of research, analysis and elaboration, in collaboration with the Pompeii Archaeological Park. He was recently born of it in an innovative agreement, the definition of which, in its complexity, touches all aspects of creativity. The spearhead of the project is the "Ornamenta: the jewels of Campania from Pompeii to the contemporary" exhibition, set up at the Goldsmith Center on the occasion of the Open trade fair event, from 6 to 14 May. Over 140 finds and jewels from various archaeological sites welcomed over 18,000 visitors, experts and jewelery enthusiasts over the 10 days of the exhibition. A unique event, to which the Minister of Culture Gennaro Sangiuliano dedicated a special visit, accompanied by the Park Director Gabriel Zuchtriegel.

The finds, datable between the first millennium BC up to the first century. A.D., mainly made up of jewels from Pompeii and other sites in the Vesuvius area, tell the story of the technique and use of ornamenta, not only an expression of beauty, but often also of social status and a sign of contacts and exchanges with different cultures.

An integral part of the collaboration was a complex gemological analysis project, expressly requested by the scholars of the Archaeological Park, to which about 40 jewels were subjected, mainly from the famous "gem collection" in Pompeii. A very innovative project, never done before, which aims for the first time, with the techniques of traditional and investigative gemology, to highlight materials, provenances, and processing techniques that are still little investigated and destined to become a cornerstone for investigations futures.

The project was presented at the inaugural conference of Open, the six-monthly trade fair that has been held at the Goldsmith Center for over 20 years, by Loredana Prosperi, director of the Italian Gemological Institute, and by Prof. Ciro Paolillo, professor at the degli Studi la Sapienza expert in investigative gemology.

From the gemological analysis process undertaken in recent months, and in response to the increasingly sophisticated needs of gemological analysis services for the museum and goldsmith system, the Permanent Scientific Committee of Investigative Gemology was born at the Marcianise Goldsmith Center. It will be a permanent service dedicated to Gemology, available to museum complexes and goldsmith operators, equipped with advanced skills and instruments. This too, a project by Tarì projected towards the future of jewellery.

Finally, the completion of the collaboration with the Archaeological Park of Pompeii will include a real competition of ideas and creativity, dedicated to young designers students of the most prestigious Italian design schools and institutions, who in the coming months will be accompanied through a series of seminars and meetings organized by experts, dedicated to the discovery of the goldsmith styles and manufacture of the 1st century AD, to the creation of new collections of jewels inspired by the exceptional relevance of the ancient artefacts on display.

Nothing more probable that creativity still continues to surprise, increasingly strengthening the deep and intangible bond that instills millennia of history of beauty in the contemporary jewel.

Tarì's numbers: 400 manufacturing and distribution companies, 2,500 employees, 3,500 daily presences of professional operators, 40,000 m2 of production and services, 9,500 m2 of exhibition space for trade fairs, 400,000 professional visits a year, 1.2 billion annual induced activities, 30 % of turnover destined for export.
