Coral Christmas Crib

The Presepe in Corallo (Coral Christmas Crib) is a marriage between two Italian excellences: coral working of Torre del Greco and the tradition of Neapolitan crib.

The Neapolitan crib art has remained unchanged for centuries, becoming part of the most followed and consolidated handcrafted tradition in the city, also appreciated worldwide.

Neapolitan crib is a poetic representation of  nativity scene and is traditionally set in Naples during the eighteenth century.

In most cases, the Coral cribs structures are created by the Christmas Crib masters, following the tradition of  Neapolitan Crib of 1700 and using simple materials such as wood and cork, as opposed to a much more noble material like coral. Shepherds also are realized following the classic tradition: bodies made of tow, iron wire and silk of San Leucio. In some cases even the structure of the crib is made of coral.

The exhibition of Coral Cribs at the Tarì has been organized in collaboration with Assocoral.
